Weaving and Knitting Accessories

Vintage Simet yarn-cake winder

Vintage Simet yarn-cake winder

I have three newly acquired tools to add to my knitting and weaving tool collection thanks to a weaving guild friend Betsy Clark! I am so thankful and thrilled with all three of them. Betsy said they were from an auction where they were part of a batch of items that were purchased as a bundle. The ones that I acquired are an electric bobbin winder, a swift, and a vintage Simet yarn-cake winder.

Bobbin Winder

UPDATE 8-19-17 – I was told this is an AVL and that it’s a treasure – yes it is and I’m so lucky to have it. https://www.avlusa.com/catalog/warping-accessories/bobbin-winders/ Original Post: Electric Bobbin Winder, appears to be homemade using a TACSEW sewing machine motor and a foot pedal that is variable speed (sort of… )

Swift

This is a Swift, I had to do some research to figure out what it is and how to use it – I’m embarrassed to admit that I thought it was some sort of warping mill until I found a YouTube video that shows how to used it with a hank of yarn.

Vintage Simet yarn-cake winder – what a beautiful yarn cake I made in a matter of minutes! I love love love it! Thank you Betsy for this and for the other items too! That yarn-cake is 6″ diameter and 3-1/2″ tall!

Vintage Simet yarn-cake winder – here it is rewired, cleaned, oiled, and ready for housing to be put back on. See pictures below of the items and how I cleaned and oiled them. The Simet winder didn’t have an electric cord to plug it into the electric outlet, so I got out my tools and opened the housing case, then I rewired the electric wires to make it a direct hookup to the motor. I took pictures of the process, see all below.

MUSIC GIVES WINGS TO THE SOUL

This tote was a custom order for a customer who requested the appliqued words to be -MUSIC GIVES WINGS TO THE SOUL – She told me she will stuff it full of groceries when she goes shopping so I made the lining from a rugged recycled polypropylene (PP) material and the handles are made of same material plus the inner core of the handles is a cotton fabric strap.  I hope she will enjoy it and get many years of use from this tote.

Big White Radishes by Tracy

My friend Tracy Tucker is growing loads of produce on her local farm along with the bees she raises, see more at Combs of Honey  – you will find Tracy at the NAVARRE/HWY 87 FARMERS’ MARKET in Holley Navarre on Saturday mornings.

Big White Radishes by Tracy

I came home  yesterday to some big beautiful white radishes that my friend Tracy had left on my porch! Thank you Tracy!

radish-carrot-cabbage lacto ferment

I cut clean and slice the radishes, add carrots and some of my homemade sauerkraut to a ferment jar and give these a couple days to lacto-ferment and they will be excellent tasty treat, not to mention packed full of probiotics!

Bees March 2015

It has been a busy morning at Maggie’s Corner today.

If you follow my posts you know I had bees in the old house on my property last year. Well there were more that were in a different section of the wall we missed seeing last year.

Queen cell capped off.

This hive, according to Clarence is about 4 to 5 years old and I can see that myself because of the look of the wax, I learned that bit last year. There were multiple queen cells and one huge one is capped off. Take a look at this beauty!
