Recycle and Win

I have posted new information on my website  http://maggiescorner.org/ about a promotion that I am starting to encourage recycling; you can win a gift.

There are some feed bags that are more popular than other bags such as the Tucker Goat Feed Bags that qualify to win a gift. For every 10 Tucker Goat Feed Bags that you recycle with me you will receive one of the totes I make from those bags. See the tote in my Etsy Store Here: Maggie’s Etsy Shop Goat Feed Tote

The feed bags must be empty with no animal excrement or mold inside or outside of the bag.

If you have other feed bags or coffee bags that you want to recycle, contact me to see if they qualify for any similar chance to win a tote, or if you want to have a tote made contact me for a price, if you want to make your own I also sell pattern tutorials in my Craftsy Tutorial Shop

ALSO I do other sewing for a fee:

Corkshrooms

I made my first corkshrooms and I made an error on the first cable row but I left it because I didn’t catch my mistake until I got to the 2nd cable row.

My 1st corkshroom and as you can probably see the first cable I did wrong but 2nd cable I did correct, I'm OK with mistake, learned from it and can't wait to make next one correctly.

Working on my first Magic Corkshroom I didn't realize this was wrong until a few rows later. Instead of 4 on cable holder it should have been 2, when I went back to read the explanation of how this pattern states to do the cable I realized what I had done so did the 2nd cable row correctly. I will keep this one to remind myself of my mistake and reminder to read my directions more carefully next time. you can find the pattern on my project page http://www.ravelry.com/projects/maggiescorner/magic-corkshrooms #knitting

Dyeing, Spinning and Weaving Feathers

I wanted to share this wonderful article Karren K. Brito on entwinements

Also check out her blog https://entwinements.wordpress.com/

I have returned to Oaxaca just in time for TEXTIM, a conference on Mesoamerican Textiles.  A friend had signed me up for a workshop and conference and we stopped by the museum, Museo Textil de Oaxaca, today to check out the details.  The workshops are all on using feathers.  There was an exhibit  with feathers that we got to look at briefly.  My workshop starts on Wednsday and the conference goes through Sunday.  More to come….

Growlers

I listed the – made to order –  32 oz double growler tote and 64 oz tote in my Etsy shop. Click on picture below to link to the listing. You can order online or if you are in Pensacola, Florida stop by Pensacola Bay Brewery, they carry my totes in their gift shop! You can fill up your Growlers and have a tote to carry it home in. My favorite is their amber ale, Riptide. They also sell bottled beers by the six pack now! WhooHoo! I think I need to design a new tote for those six-packs!

Weaving and Knitting Accessories

Vintage Simet yarn-cake winder

Vintage Simet yarn-cake winder

I have three newly acquired tools to add to my knitting and weaving tool collection thanks to a weaving guild friend Betsy Clark! I am so thankful and thrilled with all three of them. Betsy said they were from an auction where they were part of a batch of items that were purchased as a bundle. The ones that I acquired are an electric bobbin winder, a swift, and a vintage Simet yarn-cake winder.

Bobbin Winder

UPDATE 8-19-17 – I was told this is an AVL and that it’s a treasure – yes it is and I’m so lucky to have it. https://www.avlusa.com/catalog/warping-accessories/bobbin-winders/ Original Post: Electric Bobbin Winder, appears to be homemade using a TACSEW sewing machine motor and a foot pedal that is variable speed (sort of… )

Swift

This is a Swift, I had to do some research to figure out what it is and how to use it – I’m embarrassed to admit that I thought it was some sort of warping mill until I found a YouTube video that shows how to used it with a hank of yarn.

Vintage Simet yarn-cake winder

Vintage Simet yarn-cake winder – what a beautiful yarn cake I made in a matter of minutes! I love love love it! Thank you Betsy for this and for the other items too! That yarn-cake is 6″ diameter and 3-1/2″ tall!

Vintage Simet yarn-cake winder – here it is rewired, cleaned, oiled, and ready for housing to be put back on. See pictures below of the items and how I cleaned and oiled them. The Simet winder didn’t have an electric cord to plug it into the electric outlet, so I got out my tools and opened the housing case, then I rewired the electric wires to make it a direct hookup to the motor. I took pictures of the process, see all below.
